Going by the recent updates that were announced at the Google I/O event, 2016 will go down in history as the year when beacons left the world in awe of how contextual notifications can help enhance a user’s daily life in ways he/she never imagined.
By allowing places around a user, including museums and drug stores to send contextually relevant notifications to him/her, Google has probably taken proximity marketing to a whole new level. What makes these announcements all the more exciting is that most of them, right from the launch of Chrome Support on Android to the launch of Android Instant Apps and Google Nearby, address some of the critical challenges that the beacon market has been faced with, head on.
For instance, up until now beacons enabled businesses to reach out and interact with their most regular and affiliated customers via their business’ beacon-enabled app. However, the technology faced a huge limitation in terms of helping businesses target uninitiated users, as many of these users wouldn’t even be aware of such an app in the first place. Google Nearby solves this by notifying users of apps that could be helpful when they’re in proximity to an Eddystone beacon.
While all of this sounds pretty straightforward, there is also a fair amount of confusion around how Google Nearby will impact the ongoing beacon projects. Quite a few of our customers wrote to us with queries about Google Nearby and what will change in the beacon ecosystem as a result of this latest development.
Through our upcoming webinar on ‘Google Nearby: How it will Impact your Business’ we aim to help businesses with this by helping them understand how Google Nearby will impact the proximity marketing space and how they can leverage the same to succeed with beacons.
