The world today is saturated with media messages, promotions, offers and advertisements. Being one in a sea of competitors, how do you stand out?
To best fit the needs of a consumer today, it is absolutely necessary to be highly contextual – that is, to provide them with the right information at the right time and place. Beacons are fantastic marketing tools that provide hyper-relevant messages to consumers on a proximity basis.

Despite the hyper-relevancy that beacons provide, interested customers may still take time to actually purchase the product for a multitude of reasons. Perhaps they do not have the resources to make the purchase, or may simply feel that it is a purchase that can be made later. Regardless of the reasons, there is one thing that must be ensured – they should not forget you. You can do this by giving them an option to save the offer for later.
Fortunately, there is such a feature: Apple wallet.
What is Apple Wallet?
Apple Wallet is an iPhone app that digitizes and saves all credit cards, tickets, rewards, and coupons. Essentially, you can use it as a digital alternative to a real wallet.
Integrating Apple Wallet in beacon campaigns: Why is it beneficial?
At the bottom of any markdown card, iPhone users receive the option to “Save to Apple Wallet”. This feature saves the markdown campaign as a pass into the user’s Wallet app and ensures that the offer stays with them even if they are away from the proximity of the beacon.
Sounds pretty cool? It gets better!
If the user enters the proximity of the beacon again, they will receive a notification from Apple wallet, reminding them of the offer that they were interested in.
When the user wishes to use the pass to redeem the offer or simply take further action, they can scan the QR code on the pass, which directs them back to the markdown card that they initially saw.

Applications of Apple Wallet across industries
The pass created on the Apple Wallet can take many forms: coupons, discount codes or event tickets. This means that the feature is versatile and can be used differently to match the needs of various industries.
1. Retail
In the retail industry, Apple Wallet can be best used to provide discount coupons and offers. When your offer stays in the pocket of your customer, they are constantly reminded that it exists and there is a high chance they will actually redeem it when they are ready, willing and able to purchase it.
For example, in a grocery store setting, customers who come with the purpose of purchasing flour can be reminded of the beacon campaign offer about granola bars that interested them a while back. This reminder can drive them to actually redeem the offer and purchase the granola bars this time.
Apple Wallet provides customers with the convenience of being able to access these offers when most relevant.
2. Real Estate
Apple Wallet can digitize the act of giving a potential real estate buyer your business card. In an age where the only thing you can trust people to carry everywhere with them is a smartphone, it is highly advisable to give them mobile access to contact you when they wish to. What better way to stay connected than to place yourself permanently in their digital wallet?
3. Spas and Salons
Similar to retail, spas and salons can use the Apple Wallet feature when they provide offers and discount codes. This can be highly beneficial, especially for customers who visit the salon on a regular basis. If they are aware that they already have a discount offer at your salon saved with them, it can be a high motivator for them to come back to your salon over any other.
4. Event Ticketing
Providing tickets that can be saved in a user’s Apple Wallet can be very convenient for the user, who will not have to worry about losing a paper ticket. It is easy to access and keeps the customer in the loop about the event.
5. For More information
Catering to the need of today’s well-informed consumer, the Apple Wallet pass can also simply lead the user to the respective website or any other relevant resource, so that they have constant access to more information about a product or service when they need it.
What about Android devices?
At this point, you might be wondering what happens to all the Android customers. Unfortunately, there is no similar service provided by Android phones. However, we have a solution for this!
Instead of the Apple Wallet option, Android users have the option to “Save on Your Device” at the bottom of the markdown card.
In this case, it is necessary to embed QR codes on the markdown card itself.
If a user saves the markdown card to the device, a screenshot of the same containing the QR code will automatically save onto the smartphone gallery. Scanning this QR code will direct the user to the markdown card URL, where they can access the campaign anytime and from anywhere.
